The Russian Drama Theater of Uzbekistan was established in 1934. The founders of the theater are the artistic director V.А. Chirkin and director M.K. Vulkonsky devoted all his creative life to the formation of the theater.
Many performances are among the significant achievements of theatrical art of the 30-50’s. These are Boris Godunov by A. Pushkin, A. Tolstoy’s Peter the First, M. Lermontov’s Masquerade, A. Chekhov’s Three Sisters, A. Griboedov’s Woe from Wit, A. Ostrovsky’s “On the Strong Place” , etc. The theater becomes a real center of realistic art, in which the desire for life’s truth is combined with a bright theatricality.
Turn in the creative activity of the theater occurred in the 50-70-ies. and he was determined thanks to the new direction, the gravitating search, to modern stylistics. Steps for the theater were staged: “The story of an empty soul” – the first incarnation of M. Gorky’s epic “Life of Klim Samgin” and “Irkutsk history” by A. Arbuzov staged by People’s Artist of Uzbekistan A. Ginzburg; “Hamlet” by W. Shakespeare in the production of the Honored Artist of Russia A. Mikhailov; “The regiment is coming” – the embodiment of the novel by M. Sholokhov “They fought for their Motherland” and “The Power of Darkness” by L. Tolstoy in the direction of M. Spivak.
In 1967 The theater is awarded the title “Academic”. In this period, V. Strizhov’s vivid performances “Traveler without luggage” Zh. Anuya, “Inspector” N. Gogol, “Man from La Mancha” D. Wasserman, “Tsar Fedor Ioanovich” by A. Tolstoy demonstrated a high professional culture of perception of the new, in art.
Great success fell to the share of the performances of the director and teacher – People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Olga Chernova. She was constantly looking for ways to the heart of a contemporary, she was always sincere in her aspirations. Her performances “Crime and Punishment” by F. Dostoevsky, “Tram” Desire “based on T. Williams’s play,” Mother’s Field “by Ch. Aitmatov and many others always aroused the delight of the auditorium, and after each production in the constellation of the theater a new actor’s star.
In 1984, Vyacheslav Gvozdkov was invited to the post of the theater’s chief director, whose plays “The Garden Without a Land” by D.Razumovskaya, “Flight over the Cuckoo’s Nest” Kizi, “Private” A.Dudarev, “All the Stars” and many others became a real theatrical discovery. Creativity Vyacheslav Gvozdkova highly appreciated in Uzbekistan. He was awarded the high title – Honored Art Worker of Uzbekistan.
The director A. Kuzin, now the People’s Artist of Russia, who staged performances “Before the Third Cocks” by V. Shukshin, “The Frout of Freedom” by B. Okudzhava, “Do not play with the archangels” by D. Fo, “Caligula” on A The Camus, “The Lion in the Winter” by Goldman and others.
In 1990 Vladimir Shapiro was appointed to the post of art director of the ARTD of Uzbekistan. In different years, they put on performances “Countess Julia” by A. Strindberg, “Everything in the Garden” by E. Olby, “Sacred Beasts” and “Horrible Parents” by J. Cocteau, “Great Magic” by E. de Filippo, simplicity “and” Mad Money “by A. Ostrovsky,” Marriage “by N. Gogol,” Zoykina Apartment “by M. Bulgakov and others.
In the theater there was an outstanding galaxy of artists. Names of People’s Artists of the USSR Galina Zagurskaya and Mikhail Mansurov; People’s Artists of Russia Roman Tkachuk, Vladimir Recepther, Igor Ledogorov, Victor Verzhbitsky; People’s Artists of Uzbekistan Yevgeny Yavorsky, Claudia Efremova, Lyudmila Gryaznova, Vladimir Rusinov forever remained in the memory and in the hearts of the spectators of Uzbekistan.
